Hardy Reef

We had a fantastic time cruising round the Whitsunday Islands, off the coast of Queensland. We snorkeled round Hardy Reef from the pontoon. The colours of the fish and corals was amazing, so vibrant and so many irridescent shades. We get so few photos together this seemed the perfect picture for the 1-2-3 Challenge Blog.

Hardy Reef

The colour was Blue
The word was Together
The Technique was masking.
I added a layer of pearlescent texture paste through a stencil to create waves at the top. I used a bubbles stencil to mono print the photomat to look like the air bubbles from our snorkels. I randomly inked stencils to create a layered background. I used grunge letters as a mask to make the title, and sprayed with Dylusions inks then removed the letters. The seaweed is a prima stamp and the compass Tim Holtz. The tissue tape and sticker are from IKEA. The edge is finished with faux stitching to pull the design together.

Hessian texture paste detail

This week I have been playing with textures for a “Get some texture” challenge on A Vintage Journey blog.
First I stripped the back frame of a 12×12 canvas then painted it with TH distress paints, crackle glaze then inks. After sanding bits I was pleased with the result.
The inspiration for the design came from the tattered leaf die and texture fade, only just discovered the folder to match the leaves! So I made roses from tattered flowers and put glossy accents on for dew drops. The tattered leaves were die cut from kraft core’dinations then embossed.

The hessian (burlap) was washed, stained and inked the I put texture paste through stencils. When it was dry I inked and outlined. I stamped “Wonderful Life” with archival.
I embossed grunge paper with Travel Signs texture fade, then coloured the words are tyre tread with DI. Decorations Antiquing Cream was painted over, dried then wiped off the raised areas, another new favourite!
The photo is in the Daintree, near Cape Tribulation in Australia. We had to have a 4×4 to deal with the unsealed roads and frequent flooded creek crossings! I am really pleased with the result, hope you like it x

Whew, what a wet weekend for Spring Bank holiday. Luckily we had nothing planned so I could spend time in the attic. The rain made me think about our recent adventures in the Tropical Rainforest, North Queensland in Australia. Yes it rains all the time in the forest, drip, drip, drip. We were way out of our comfort zone and had never experienced anything like it before! The noise of animals, birds, frogs and insects was deafening at night.
We stayed at Mungumby Lodge, Black Mountains, Cooktown. A frontier place a few kilometres from the road. We travelled down an unsealed, dirt road, crossing flooded creeks to get there. It was a beautiful place and we stayed in the lodge where David Attenborough had slept during his stay.
I created a scrap page of our lodge.
I used green Prima paper for the background with masked, inked kraft card. I layered and sewed them together. I used a TH stamp, embossed with white Wow powder. The title is die cut and glossy accented. The journalling is handwritten on the tags.
I will submit my design to 1-2-3 May challenge. I used Green paper, the word Time and journalling in my design.
Hope you like it.

I made this door hanger for my friend Ruth. She has just made a bedroom into her first craft room. I used embossing folders steam punk style and flowers. I love steam punk style and Tim’s embossing folders. I want to enter the Vintage Journey challenge.

Wedding Accessories

I created a stand full of all sorts of bits and pieces to hold the table seating plan. The desk tidy was a white wood from Ikea. I turned it on its back, created drawer effects from corrugated card, painted, stamped and added Tim's tissue tape on the edges. The fun part was adding bird cages, hearts, family pictures etc.

I really enjoyed making accessories for my daughters wedding. This is the table seating plan! I customised an IKEA white wood letter rack. I turned it onto the back, made a false drawer from corrugated card, aged, stamped and distressed mainly using Tim Holtz products. Then the fun started, making all the stuff to display. The table plan names were written on large decorated tags and hung from the drawer knobs or stood in holders for guests to look at.
